Great afternoon and Happy Wedding Wednesday!!
I know that I say it all the time but I really do have the best followers. They are fun and so down to earth. @cedes28_AMG has been following the @thecoordinatedbride IG for quite a long time and I’ve had the pleasure of conversing with her via IG. Her groom to be @dveloz1 not only follows our IG page but every now and then I see that he would hit the “like” button on a few wedding inspiration posts. It’s not every day that we hear about a groom taking an active part in the wedding planning process.
Three words that I would use to describe @cedes28_AMG are sophisticated, honest and gorgeous. Yes, she is stunning and is going to be a beautiful bride! You already know how I feel about the brides that I follow back, if you don’t know her, you would want to be her friend after one conversation.
This beautiful couple will be getting married in a few weeks at a beautiful venue in Long Island, NY and I am ecstatic that I get to share their story with you on the blog today!

How We Met (Via Zahira)
We met August 13, 2006 in NYC. Funny story! I was in my car at a red light with all my girls hanging out, enjoying a hot summer Sunday, when a group of guys on Motorcycles pull up beside us. I’ve always been very reserved, unlike some of my friends, so once they saw the bikes they went nuts! Talking to them, asking for rides etc.. Meanwhile I’m in the driver’s seat just praying for the light to turn green because I just want to go! Well, 1 of the guys (Damian) gets off his bike comes across to my window and says,” Well since you are the driver lets exchange numbers so we can meet up later on so your girls can get a ride on the motorcycles”, so I agreed and gave him my number.
As the evening progresses, we enjoy our night (girls only) and get ready to head back to NJ. So I called Damian, but he never answered. So I continued onto crossing the George Washington Bridge. He calls me as I’m smacked in the middle of the bridge crossing into NJ and says, “Oh, I’m sorry, I was riding and couldn’t answer my phone.” My response was, “It’s ok, thanks for the invite but we are already in NJ. Have a good night!”
A few days pass, and I get a call from him. Just saying hello and wanting to spark up a conversation. So we end up talking for hours! Hours turned into days and weeks with time spent just getting to know each other. We made plans and I cancelled all the time (because I forgot what he looked like!!!!) Lol.
Move forward to Labor Day 2006. I’m going to a boat party in New York City with all my girls, so I let him know, ” Hey, I’m going to a boat party in the city, if you want to meet up, meet me at the Chelsea Pier parking lot and we can see EACH OTHER before I board the boat.” He agrees. I get there but I don’t see him ( then again, I don’t know who I’m looking for because I forgot what he looked like) but he sees me because I’m driving my car. When he finally tells me who he is, I turn back to my girls and say, “OMG! He’s the cute guy by the white car we were all drooling about when we pulled into the parking lot!” Lmao!!
And so the 7yr journey began! The following day he came into NJ and we had our first date! We had dinner, and then I took him to Edgewater, NJ which has amazing view of NYC (which he had never been to) and he loved it!!! It hasn’t been a walk in the park all 7yrs. We’ve had our ups and downs and mega roller coaster rides! But we’ve managed to become the best of friends! And that is what’s held our relationship the most! We are best friends! Love comes and goes, and that’s normal. But if you can’t be friends with your partner, you have nothing because love can do but so much.
He proposed on Christmas Eve 2011, five years later. Our original plan was a destination wedding in the Dominican Republic, but it would have been difficult for a few very important family members to travel, so we decided to get married in NY. We found this amazing place on Long Island, and just said let’s do it!!
The Wedding Planning Process
Wedding planning hasn’t been too bad! I’ve had my moments of bad stress. Daily life bills can easily become difficult when you’re paying for your own wedding. We come from Hispanic parents who are fortunate enough to live and pay daily life’s bills, not a lavish huge wedding.
The most stressful parts of the planning process for me were
1. Looking for my wedding dress! I tried on about 45 dresses! And it was so difficult to finally say, THIS IS IT! I went in a direction I didn’t imagine myself going in, but it was the one that made me feel like a bride!
2. Picking your bridesmaids dresses! Finding the perfect color, and style! Making the decision of what other people will wear is extremely difficult. So I chose 5 styles and let my bridal party pick what they felt most comfortable in.
3. Finding my shoes!!!! It took me about 9months to find the perfect shoe! Thankfully, I found them last week!!! Waiting for them to arrive!!
4. Coming up with all the money! LoL
Advice from one coordinated bride to another
Start early! It does never too early to pick your vendors, pick your styles, pick anything you want! Because the time will fly by! Don’t leave things for the last minute. Save! Save! Save!!! Some of us don’t have parent’s who will contribute to the wedding. Be smart, shop around, and save! Quality cost money, but if you play the right cards and play around with your wedding date, you find great deals.
There will be moments when you say,” This is getting out of hand, I want a smaller wedding.” Just breath, relax and know that all this hard work is for your special day. A day we, all as little girls, dream of, imagine, and anxiously wait for!
Marry your best friend! Know that this is the person you confide in and vice versa! It is very important to get to know your partner in and out! Flaws and no flaws! Make sure this person will never ever turn their back on you when you need them the most. Someone who puts you before anything! Someone who loves you for you! On your crankiest days, on your ugly days, and the days you feel like you can’t handle anything. Make sure this person is there to hold you and comfort you and tell you everything will be ok!
Finally, Say I Do with passion, love, and commitment! 4 Cs to a successful life! Not only relationships but life in general!
Communication! Common sense! Consistency! Commitment!
