This shoot completely captures the romance and drama of The Phantom of the Opera; from the theatrical lighting and moody florals to the vintage lace and styling of the bride’s gown. The beauty of the love story is represented elegantly through all the small details, such as the custom wedding favor boxes and beautifully placed pearls. The Van Dusen Mansion was the perfect setting for this themed wedding shoot to come to life.
From Jeannine Marie Photography:
For this style shoot, we picked specific details from the musical to pull the theme together.
The masks were a huge factor. It turns the theme into a fun, masquerade event!
The red rose detail was a big must-have, as it is a re-occurrence in the musical. Not only was the flower used, but the red rose color was incorporated into the shoot. Napkins, chair sashes, and the wedding cake all had the dramatic red pop to offset the dark Gothic backdrop.
On the wedding favor boxes, “You alone can make my soul take flight” was written. This was inspired by a line from the show. The original verse uses the word “song” instead of “soul,” but that slight change was made to make it feel more like a wedding than a musical.
The escort cards were printed off sheet music from the original Phantom score. The sheet music was distressed to give it a worn and vintage feel.
The Van Dusen Mansion, the venue used for the shoot, looks very similar to the Paris Opera House, where the story takes place. The large chandelier in the mansion was used for the tablescape, inspired by the famous crashing chandelier scene in the show.
